Lecturers and students of ALFA College’s School of Visual Communications recently visited Silpakorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. It was a return trip for many of the visitors who had made an initial visit 12 months earlier. This year’s visit gave students and lecturers the chance to reacquaint themselves with old friends and to build new relationships.
On the outskirts of the Malaysian capital, in a once sleepy suburban township, the nation’s educational hub has arisen over the past quarter century. With several of Malaysia’s leading colleges in Subang Jaya to choose from, students from across Malaysia and the world have converged onto Subang for their higher education needs. But little of Subang’s historic profile would suggest such a development. The name ‘Subang Jaya’ conjures up different images for each one of us. Malaysians who are of a certain age and not from Subang Jaya itself would immediately visualize one of the following (if not all) when thinking about Subang.
