On 3rd March 2016, we have been invited to attend the Presentation Ceremony of MIFF 2016 which took place at the MECC, Kuala Lumpur. We are very proud to announce that two of our final year students from the Diploma in Interior Architecture were selected as the finalists for the competition in Malaysian International Furniture Fair 2016. Although we did not win the competition, this is a good exposure for the students before entering the actual field later. Congratulations and a big round of applause!
The following are the entries from ALFA College and the idea behind:
1. Wong Mei Ying
An inspiration based on the concepts of De Stijl championed historically by Geritt Rietveld in terms of strong bold primary colours usage and today Mei Ying gears those same values into creating a piece of functional & adaptive furniture, naming it ‘Stop & Stay Reading Bench’.
It encourages one to sit and read or it simply stands alone as a sculptural form book shelf. A highly versatile entity conceived to adapt to different situations or configurations at any given space due to the retractable & rotational bench seat.
2. Chee Fang Yan
The Clasik & Eleganz 1 was conceived purely on ergonomic principles of understanding the seating mechanism in which human beings depend on the ischial tuberosity to anchor on a given surface to support the torso while the feet act as the 3rd contact point creating the ‘triangular support’.
This creation was based entirely on the integration of the 3 circles which conform to the human form defining the seat in leather upholstery on a timber base while the leg rest is in copper which remains shiny due to constant contact of the users’ shoes.
