Prancing into the Lunar New Year of the Horse, ALFA College held its annual Chinese New Year Celebration on 14 February 2014 at the college premises in Subang Square. Students, lecturers and staff gathered in force and came fully dressed for the occasion, with most wearing colourful, traditional garb; namely cheongsam for the ladies and changshan for the men.
Following a welcome speech by Principal of ALFA College, Mr. Francis Ng, the event kicked off with a ‘Fashion Extravaganza’ show where student models paraded impressive original designs created by ALFA’s School of Fashion Entrepreneurship. This was followed by song and dance performances by a couple of talented students. The official signing ceremony then took place, where the guests-of-honour and special guests were invited to sign on the event banner which doubled up as the stage backdrop.
One of the highlights of the event was a ‘Lion Dance’ performance in which the performers thoroughly entertained the audience with their antics and showmanship. There was more song and dance dished out by the students which include an all-female, guitar-playing singing trio. The celebrations culminated with a traditional ‘Lou Sang tossing’ and lunch. All in all, the successful event exuded a fun-filled atmosphere with many rekindling hopes and optimism for a prosperous year ahead.
